What is the shelf life of sealed
polybags of substrate that have been
treated with FIBA-ZORB PLUS?
This additional trial performed in Canada in 2009 showed that the FIBA-ZORB® PLUS wetting agent improved the rehydration of two types of peat-based growing media when it was incorporated at a concentration of 250 ml/m3 of growing medium and even when peat-based growing media was stored for 10 months in temperature-controlled conditions.
The extensive beneficial effects of the FIBA-ZORB PLUS wetting agent were demonstrated through the increased amount of water absorbed in the treated growing medium compared to the control that did not contain a wetting agent. See the graph below.

In 2007 longevity and shelf life trials were undertaken at the Stockbridge Technology Centre (STC) in the UK, and they concluded that:
“Peat treated with FIBA-ZORB PLUS and stored for 16 months, retained its ability to absorb water with only a slight loss in performance over the latter part of the period.”
The STC also carried out wetting and drying cycles over the same 16 month period and these proved FIBA-ZORB PLUS was stable and after 30 wetting/drying cycles was still capable of improving water retention indicating that it is not easily leached from the peat.
